The Gastonian

Our first stop was the Gastonian, ideally located within the nation’s largest urban Historic Landmark District, Savannah Georgia’s Gaston Gallery Bed And Breakfast Inn offered casual elegance to delight the most discriminating traveler and spa seeker. This Italianate townhouse, built in 1876 provides a variety of spacious accommodations.

The front entrance is highlighted by an original cranberry glass transom. The parlors and guest rooms feature original plaster ceiling medallions, and crown moldings. They have received the three diamond rating, by AAA, and our four gold leaf rating!

After being showed to our lovely rooms, we explored the grounds. Our female writer was in the “Silk Rope” room complete with the “Savannah Wedding” king canopy bed; private bathroom; gas fireplace; private balcony to enjoy the lush gardens and a lovely view of Gaston Street.

Our male writer was in the “Wild Heron Room”; with the beautiful West Indies Planters king canopy bed; gas fireplace; balcony with a gorgeous garden view.

We found a quaint little porch to sit and relax in the “Southern Style” in a rocking chair to truly enjoy the beauty and fragrance of the garden. They serve wine and appetizers in the afternoon while you enjoy the bird filled garden.

Belford’s Savannah Dinner
That evening we were hosted at the Belford’s restaurant, Savannah’s most beautiful restaurant, located just five minutes from The Gaston Gallery B&B. The Chef is very creative and the menu changes to take full advantage of each season. They have won the “Best Menu Item” from A TASTE OF SAVANNAH. We tried and highly recommend the following items: Crab Cakes, Hazelnut Red Snapper; for dessert Fried Banana Cheese Cake and Hazelnut Bread Pudding.

The next morning we were off to the Vanilla Day Spa. This day spa is located just a very short distance from the Gastonian and if you were feeling ambitious, you could walk, and so we did.

Our gentleman enjoyed the following package:

Man’s Facial
Therapeutic Swedish massage
Spa Pedicure
The entire process took 2 1/2 hours and the completed product was magnificent!

On our way back we walked. It is especially beautiful in the spring, with its blooming azaleas, flowering trees and large ornate fountain dating back to 1858. The air was so fresh and inviting. This was simply a perfect way to wind up after our treatments.

After our walk we enjoyed listening to classical music as we sipped our tea in the parlor.

If you want to really experience the culture here we recommend trying the Southern Tea served in Calhoun Square from 2-5 p.m. on the following Tour of Hidden Gardens
April 25-26: N.O.G.S. Tour of Hidden Gardens" On your own" walking tour of eight private walled gardens in Savannah's famed Historic District plus Massie School Heritage Center and Gardens. Enjoy Savannah's garden features, special plants and springtime flowers.

A Southern Tea is served in Calhoun Square from 2-5 p.m. both afternoons.
