Squaw Creek Spa
Squaw Creek

The Resort at Squaw Creek, Lake Tahoe’s premier mountainside resort, offers winter travelers and spa seekers four diamond luxury at affordable prices.
The Resort is located at the base of Squaw Valley just 45 minutes from the Reno/Tahoe International Airport and six miles from the world renowned Lake Tahoe.
The Resort at Squaw Creek offers shuttle service for its guests from the airport as well as a town shuttle once you arrive, to explore the Tahoe City area.
RASC is run by a family and not a “Parent Company”, which makes this property very unique and personal.

Upon our arrival, we were escorted to our beautifully appointed rooms.

Squaw Creek Rooms

One of our rooms faced the valley, and the other the snow covered mountains.

Squaw Creek Rooms
After settling into our rooms, we went to the Squaw Creek Sports Center to be fitted for our ski gear to be able to enjoy the exclusive on-property chair lift that provides its guests ski-in/ski-out access to Squaw Valley’s 4,000 acre of world class ski terrain!
This resort has so much to offer, such as ski with “Franz Weber”, an Olympian and six-time World speed skiing Champion who happens to be the director of skiing at the Resort at Squaw Creek, or how about a Sleigh Ride tour for 30 minutes?
We found that one of the most unusual recreational activities offered was A “Dog Sled Tour”!

The resort has an Ice Skating Rink and a Nordic center to give you equipment for snowshoeing, ice-skating and sledding/snow tubing on their 18 groomed kilometers spanning more than 400 acres of gentle cross-country terrain. Since we were here in the winter we missed the opportunity to experience tennis, horseback riding, mountain biking, golf, and hiking.

Jake's on the Lake

Jake's on the Lake

Our writers were hosted by the beautiful restaurant called “Jake’s on the Lake” on their first night in Lake Tahoe which is just a short ride from the resort (10 minutes).

What a gorgeous view of the World renowned Lake. This location has been established since 1978 right in the heart of Tahoe City, Jake’s has spectacular views of the lake showing the crystalline water and stunning mountain vistas. Jake’s menu showcases Californian Cuisine with infused flavors, innovative ingredients and exciting presentations.

The menu features an impressive selection of fresh fish and seafood including exotic Hawaiian fish, shellfish, and steaks. We highly recommend this outstanding restaurant to our readers and recommend some of the dishes we were able to sample: Ahi Poke Rolls, Grilled Basil Prawns, Hazelnut Salad, Apple and Spiced Candied Walnuts, Crispy Herb Crusted Fresh Fish, and New Zealand Rack of Lamb.

After a good nights sleep, we experienced the ski in/ski out access into Squaw Valley USA's 4,000 acres. Everything you need is on site and just steps from your room or suite. The Resort has its own chair lift right from the base of the mountain.

What an unbelievable view when you get to the top of the mountain of the world famous Lake Tahoe! The day was so perfect with unsurpassed spring skiing conditions.

After a busy day on the slopes, we headed to the inviting and luxurious full-service spa!
Greeted by their exceptionally friendly staff, we were given spa robes, slippers, lockers and offered the use of the sauna and Jacuzzi to prepare for our escape from what was already an amazing reality.

Squaw Creek Spa

The Spa at Squaw Creek features eight massage rooms and two “wet” body treatment rooms; a full service beauty salon; fitness center featuring state-of-the-art fitness equipment; a tranquil lounge where we relaxed before our treatments. The lounge offered a juice bar featuring chilled cucumber and orange water, fresh fruit as well as herbal teas.

Our female reviewer experienced the hot stone massage. This brought such a deep state of relaxation. The therapist uses various sizes of hot basalt stones and cold marble stones taken from Lake Tahoe and used on the body in rhythmic strokes. The stones were used for acupressure when you lay down on the table face up. The contrast of both the hot and cold stones allows the therapist to work very deep into the muscles.

Squaw Creek Spa

Our male reviewer was given the Olympic Sports massage. This treatment was designed for the physically active person. This massage utilizes a variety of specific techniques including compression and fiber friction. This vigorous massage also targets sore, strained and overworked muscles to speed recovery, while enhancing overall physical performance and increased flexibility. Stretching was also incorporated in this massage.

Visit the Sunnyside Restaurant

Web: Sunnyside Restaurant

The following evening our writers were hosted at the Sunnyside Restaurant,

which has been a landmark in Lake Tahoe since the 1950's. With its pristine location directly on the shores of Lake Tahoe's west side, Sunnyside has become a "classic" for locals and visitors alike.

Known for its outstanding American style menu offering fresh seafood and hearty steaks, Sunnyside features lunch and dinner in either the renowned Chris Craft Room, the popular lakeside bar or during the warm seasons, on the largest lakefront deck in Tahoe. Whichever venue you dine in, you will be sure of a spectacular view of the Lake from almost every seat.

Some of the outstanding dishes we enjoyed were; Sunnyside Crispy Zucchini, Pan Seared Diver Scallops, the wine country greens with Bartlett pears and gorgonzola, North Atlantic salmon, and the very homemade tasting Blackberry crisp (like my Grandmother use to make).

The next day ...

We made a quick stop at the Sweet Potatoes Deli, located near the promenade of shops.
This is where you can grab a quick bite before you hit the slopes. Sweet Potatoes Deli offers a delicious selection of coffees, bagels, and breakfast sandwiches in the morning and fresh salads and sandwiches for lunch.

Sweet Potatoes Deli
Before our next set of treatments we enjoyed a work out in the fitness center. They featured Precore Treadmills, Life Fitness Life Cycles, Cybex Stair Machines, and Paramount Circuit Training Machines. The view was so beautiful from the fitness machines overlooking the beautiful snow-covered valley. After the work out we soaked in the whirlpool to prepare for our treatments.

Next, it was off to the spa for another wonderful secession. This time our female reviewer received one of Squaw Creek Spa's classic facials called "Hydralessence". The long lasting deep hydrating facial is designed for all skin types.

The aesthetician worked magic to nourish and replenish her skin's moisture levels with a highly hydrating facial. Using YonKa's best moisture boosters, her skin was soothed, calmed, and its elasticity was greatly enhanced. Wow! Viva la difference!

Our male reviewer received the "Le Grand Classique Facial." Promoted as the most extensive deep pore cleansing ever designed without the risk of irritation.

From the most demanding to the most fragile complexion, Le Grand Classique leaves your skin feeling nourished and looking radiantly beautiful.

Squaw Creek Spa Treatments

The skin is nourished with plant and flower extracts using YonKa's "5 progressive purifying steps" designed by his esthetician specifically for his skin care needs. Both our reviewers gave an enthusiastic two thumbs up for not only their level of expertise and delicate touch but for their friendly and personal service as well.

Next, off to dinner... The Resort at Squaw Creek offers a wide variety of fare to tempt your palate, from elegant to casual dining, you're sure to find what you're looking for. This evening we dined at the Restorante Montagna. This is one of five restaurants on the premises and probably the most popular. This location featured fresh pastas and homemade Italian pizzas.
Our server was a delightful character who guided us to the highlights of the menu with a personal zest. Starting off with their homemade bread, and special dipping sauce, they both exclaimed that this was the tastiest they ever enjoyed! They had to force themselves to stop eating the bread to leave some room for dinner. The salads were also exceptionally fresh and tasty with the special Montagna house dressing. Entree’s, the "Osso Bucco" and the daily fish special "Grilled Halibut" were unusually delicious. No wonder our reviewers heard people raving about this restaurant days before they dined there themselves.

Although their flights left Reno at 3 o'clock the next day, thanks to the incredibly easy access to the resort's ski lift, only 2 minute walk from the ski shop, our reviewers where able to get in another 3 hours of fabulous spring skiing before being whisked off to the airport with time to spare.

Resort at Squaw Creek

Of particular note was the friendly, personal service that was enjoyed from the moment they arrived at Squaw Creek Resort to the last ride to the airport. You will no doubt have a difficult time pulling yourself away from this exciting year round retreat.

Our stay was so relaxing that we wanted to stay a few days longer. It is recommended that our readers stay for five days at least, since there is so much to see and to do.

Thank you for joining us.
See you at the spa!
