Mauna Lani Resort Spa and Bungalows

Kohala Coast, Hawaii

68-1400 Mauna Lani Drive, Kohala Coast, Hawaii 96743-9796

Just finding your way to the Mauna Lani Resort is a special journey in itself. You follow an old-fashion highway that takes you along lava-strewn terrain. Kalahuipua’a Fishponds of Mauna Lani Resort are the essence and spiritual center of the resort. The seven ponds were created by ancient Hawaiians who used them to raise fish and supplement their ocean fishing efforts.

Widely recognized as a pacesetter in historic preservation and stewardship of the land, Mauna Lani beckons visitors with the spirit of peace. It has taken the leading role in supporting development of the green power market.

This magical journey is fully realized when you arrive at the resort’s new spa. The spa was designed by Sylvia Sepielli. The appearance and ambience is like that of an old Hawaiian Village. Mauna Lani Spa is one of those rare island spas one fondly remembers for reasons far beyond any creative spa menu. The surrounding environment is life changing as you begin to explore the 3,200-acre sanctuary. The Spa and adjoining fitness center include Hawaiian-inspired treatments, fitness classes, lap pool, tennis courts, swaying palm trees and a caring staff all of which help make Mauna Lani the leading spa on the Island of Hawaii. When you explore the 25,000-square-foot spa with an additional 15,000 square feet of outdoor treatment space it is no wonder why Mauna Lani has set a new standard for the industry. The “Fire and Ice” theme was carefully planned to reflect the native healing practices, culture and traditions of old Hawaii while incorporating local island products.

When you check in to the Spa you are handed a sarong and a pair of brown sandals and immediately begin to experience the genuine aloha attitude of the staff as well as the exceptionally serene environment in the Hale Nahenahe (house of gentle sounds) as you await the start of your treatment. The “Watsu treatment”, which takes place in a lava pool, is a true spiritual awakening which causes your body and mind to return to their embryonic stage of life. Any massage preformed in one of the outdoor hales is a memory not soon forgotten. The outdoor rain showers and sinks are works of art!

The five bungalows with private swimming pools and views of the Pacific Ocean are exceptional! There is a growing list of travelers who have elected to luxuriate in the bungalows at Mauna Lani Bay. The guests include hibernating CEO’s, discriminating retirees, newlyweds, vacationing families, gregarious rock stars, and high-flying athletes. If you are a guest of the bungalows you are met by your private butler and brought by limousine to the resort. A private chef prepares the meals to each guest’s specifications. Each bungalow is fully staffed so guests can fulfill any whim, 24 hours a day. Each bungalow features 4,000 square feet of living space including two bedrooms, three and a half bathrooms, a large living and dining area, kitchen, private pool, Jacuzzi, steam showers surround sound stereo system, fully stocked bar, and expansive lanai area.

The award-winning Canoe House is the signature restaurant of Mauna Lani Bay. Its stunning oceanfront setting showcases the glorious Kohala Coast Sunsets. The menu is one of the most creative in Hawaii.
