Resort and Tamaya Mist Spa

Relax and let us show you the beauty and magical quality of the earthy spas as well as the environment that sets the stage in this spiritual land known as New Mexico.

We arrived in Albuquerque, then after an easy 25 minute drive we arrived at the Hyatt Tamaya Resort. As we approached the property winding down its long driveway, we could not see it until we were right there because it is cleverly camouflaged into the New Mexico landscape. The resort takes nothing away from the 500 undeveloped acres surrounding it. Our welcome from the staff was extremely warm and inviting. To step into the main lobby feels like entering Native American paradise. I was immediately surrounded by the magical aromas of indigenous fragrances that filled the air. The décor was of rich colors and textures of New Mexico. The attention to detail was of the highest standards. The staff was extremely friendly, helpful, and always accessible.

The views outside were stunning from every window. This resort is nestled into the landscape called Rio Rancho. There is not another structure in the area as far as the eye can see. The resort is perfect for a romantic couples getaway (fine dining, private pools, exquisite shopping) or for families (family pool with water slide, day camp for kids, and opportunities to learn about and participate in Native American cultures). Whether you are a couple or a family, Tamaya is a slice of heaven! Service is impeccable and the accommodations are flawless.

My children immediately wanted to experience the pools and the giant adobe water slide. There are three different pools and a gorgeous rock waterfall that cascades into a whirlpool. The poolside service was wonderful and it was easy to relax and just take in the beauty that surrounded us. After a couple hours at the pool unwinding, we changed our clothes and drove 40 minutes into Santa Fe to see the town and go out for dinner. Hyatt Regency Tamaya

Compound Restaurant
Compound Restaurant, Santa Fe, New Mexico

Our visit to the elegant, yet quaint Compound Restaurant was well worth the drive to experience it. Tucked away behind the galleries of the famous Canyon Road, it appears at first glance to be unassuming from the outside. Once inside, the charm and warmth are apparent, not only by the very professional and friendly staff but the ambiance of the adobe-style decor.

One can dine inside, as we did on this rainy evening, or outside to take in the flavor of classic Santa Fe. We were treated to an exceptional meal of food and spirits that satisfied the taste buds and nourished the soul. Our waiters were extremely knowledgeable and accommodating. The personal service was of the utmost Compound Restaurant
Owner/Chef, Mark Kiffin is outstanding and each dish is brilliantly prepared to every detail, whether it’s the lobster, foie gras, summer market salad, seared halibut, rack of lamb chops or salmon pillard (my favorite). The presentation of the contemporary American cuisine is only to be topped by how pleasing it was to taste. Portions were perfect, and the wine list was extensive for even the most discerning connoisseur.

The desert selection was fabulous (each had the perfect liqueur or port to accompany them if you are so inclined). My personal suggestion is the strawberry shortcake or raspberry fig torte. Either will make one melt with pleasure. The prices are moderate to high and worth every penny and then some. Don’t miss this one!

Our suggestions for activities include getting up early to take a horse trail ride. A cowboy picked us up in a horse drawn wagon for a comfortable ride up to the stables located about a mile north of the resort. The horses are designed to accommodate any level of rider. The stable is run by a group of professionals dedicated to your safety and maximum enjoyment. This 2.5 hour journey is the highlight for kids and adults alike. It is the best way to really see the Pueblo back country while being entertained with amusing stories and educated about local tribes and New Mexico history. Be sure to book ahead to ensure your spot for the trail ride.
