Cruise Spa Review
Princess Cruise October -November 2002
"Ultimate Summer Family Vacation"
The Dawn Princess Ship Lotus Spa

Hawaiian Island Tour Review
We arrived from Los Angeles, California in Honolulu, HI where we were greeted by the transfer company to transport us to the ship.

We were quickly taken by bus to the ship. When we arrived, the lines to get on board were small since most passengers had checked in earlier that day. The air quality was magnificent!

We were shown to our state room, which did not even have a porthole. At first, our male reviewer was a bit reluctant since he had never sailed before. As things progressed we adjusted well.
Thankfully, you are not in your room enough to stress over the size since there are so many things to do on board the ship. However, we found that if you are booking well enough in advance the mini-suites are a great value.

We unpacked and then went to explore the ship.

This ship offers Las Vegas and Broadway- style entertainment as well as Casino Play.

Our first visit was to the Lotus Spa! It is located right next to the gym including two Jacuzzi's and a cold plunge.

What a great place to appreciate the view while working out. So inspirational! The staff was very knowledgeable. They offered fitness classes such as stepexpress, total body conditioning, pilates and even individualized personal training. Also, they offered body composition analysis and consultation, yoga, kick boxing and pulse group cycling. Please note! there is an extra charge for these classes and personal training.

Our male reviewer tried the "Deep-Tissue Sports Massage" as well as the "Musclease Aroma Spa Ocean Wrap". 50 minutes is O.K., but he felt at least 1 hr. - 1 ¼ hr. would have allowed him to fully enjoy the benefits of the massage.

Our female reviewer experienced the "Well-being Massage and a "Cellutox Aroma Spa Ocean Wrap". Both of the team felt that the staff was very well trained, and the products used were satisfactory. The spa facility is a bit older than those found on some of the newer ships. As a result, certain areas were in need of updating. For example, the steam room showed some signs of age. We were told that upgrades are forthcoming.

One thing that we did was "kid test" this trip so that we could list it as an "Ultimate Summer Family Vacation". The programs offered for the children from ages 5-12 were outstanding.

The staff was exceptional! The child that we accompanied us on this cruise loved the Kids Club so much that he was ready to extend our trip to the ships next journey through the Panama Canal. The Kids Club offered care during the shore excursions so that you are able to have your adult time if you choose. This service was included!

The ports on this Ship's itinerary were outstanding and very romantic. Our first stop was Kauai, what a beautiful location. We did not participate in any of the shore excursions and found them to be rather expensive. Instead, we rented a car on each island and asked the "Locals" what they felt were the highlights.

The second stop was Lahaina, you must take a tender from the ship to get to the island. What an adventure! There was a slight hurricane the prior night so the North Shore was a poor place to snorkel because of the high winds; however the South shore was a good choice.

Each location was so much fun because we got to swim nature's aquarium. Buy some frozen peas and carrots to feed the fish and you will feel like Jacque Cousteau. Don't forget an underwater camera (throwaways are only $10). It makes for some great memories.

The next day we stopped at Kona. Here you will want to snorkel again and this time you will see "Sea Turtles"! The town was a lot of fun for some shopping and we had a great lunch at "Bubba Gumps Shrimp Restaurant", here you can sit outside and watch the ship moored close by.

The last stop was Hilo. This is the opposite side of the "Big Island". Here you will want to see an active Volcano. You can rent a car, however it will take several hours to get there and then you must hike for about one hour to view the lava meeting the ocean (bring your binoculars). We believe a better choice is to rent or share the cost of a helicopter ride over the volcano. This was a very emotional experience.

The rest of the trip was an adventure out to sea. It is quite peaceful out there in the BIG OCEAN.

Every morning we walk our miles on the "Promenade deck" (three times around equals one mile). Afternoons were spent in the gym, before treatments.

When we were out to sea there was plenty to do or nothing at all including the reading library if you needed to have some quiet time.

We recommend booking any of your spa treatments when the ship is at sea. Please be sure to book your appointments as soon as you get on board the ship, the spa gets booked up very quickly so you will need to plan ahead. You are not permitted to book prior to the cruise. Just make a note to yourself so you will not miss out on these fabulous spa opportunities.

Note: the mini-suites are a terrific value if booked well in advance.

Thank you for joining us on our spa tour. We look forward to assisting you with your future bookings.

Mahalo. See you at the Spa!
